United States President Donald Trump has said Iran is desperate to reach an agreement and warned that fresh American strikes against the country remain possible in the coming days if diplomatic progress is not achieved.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the ballroom construction site, Trump said he could not say with certainty whether the United States would again strike Iran, though he added that Tehran still retained limited retaliatory capability.
The American president said Iran could not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He added that the United States had come close to launching fresh attacks on Iran and that naval vessels had been fully armed with missiles and other weapons nearly an hour before the planned operation.
Trump said the situation had entered an extremely sensitive phase. He added that Iran had used the Strait of Hormuz as a military pressure point for the past 47 years.
Speaking on domestic affairs, Trump said he believed the importance of religion in society could help reduce crime.
Replying to a question on Cuba, the US president said he did not have extensive information regarding regime change there, though he added that Cuba required assistance.
