The United States has described Pakistan as an important and reliable partner in the fight against terrorism.
The remarks came during a briefing to the US Senate committee, where cooperation against regional militant threats was highlighted.
The head of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, praised Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism efforts during his briefing.
He said Pakistan is actively contributing to operations against ISIS-Khorasan in the region, with military cooperation producing “tangible results” against militant groups.
Admiral Cooper stressed that this ongoing partnership reflects long-standing ties and a shared commitment between Washington and Islamabad.
During his remarks, Admiral Cooper also raised concerns about the security situation in Afghanistan.
He noted that Central Asian partners are closely monitoring terrorism-related threats emerging from Afghan territory under the influence of the Afghan Taliban.
According to him, Afghanistan remains a key focus for the United States due to continued militant activity and broader regional security risks.
Pakistan’s role in counterterror operations
Pakistan has consistently been engaged in counterterrorism operations targeting militant networks, including groups operating along its western border.
The CENTCOM chief highlighted that cooperation with Islamabad has helped deliver measurable progress against these threats, particularly in the context of ISIS-Khorasan.
Experts say this acknowledgment reflects the operational coordination between the two countries in counterterrorism and intelligence sharing.
