Audible offers more than a million audiobooks and flexible listening features for users worldwide.
But many listeners don’t realize that a few built-in settings can significantly improve their experience.
From reducing distractions to customizing playback, these changes can make listening more efficient and enjoyable.
Disable notifications for better focus
Audible notifications can be useful for updates on new releases, but they can also interrupt your listening experience.
To reduce distractions, users can turn off push notifications directly inside the app.
Go to Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Push Notifications and customize which alerts you want to disable.
For even deeper focus, users can also enable Do Not Disturb or a Focus Mode on their device. While not an Audible-specific feature, it works alongside app settings to minimize interruptions during listening sessions.
Turn on automatic downloads
Automatic downloads ensure your audiobooks are always available offline, without waiting for streaming or buffering.
This is especially useful for users who travel frequently or have unstable internet connections.
Go to Profile > Settings > Data & Storage and toggle Auto-Download.
Once enabled, any new audiobook purchases will automatically download to your device. Users can also adjust audio quality settings, with high quality recommended for clearer sound, though it may require more storage space.
One of Audible’s most useful features is playback speed control, allowing users to speed up or slow down narration.
This helps listeners match the pace to their preference or even finish books faster.
While playing an audiobook, tap Speed on the Now Playing screen and adjust using the slider.
Users can increase or decrease speed in small increments (such as 0.5x changes). To set a default speed, go to Settings > Player > Narration Speed and choose a preferred option for all future books.
The skip interval feature lets users control how much audio is skipped when moving forward or backward.
By default, it is set to 30 seconds, but it can be adjusted for better control over playback.
Open the audio player, tap the three-dot menu, then go to Player Settings > Skip Forward and Back.
Users can set intervals anywhere between 10 seconds and 90 seconds, making it easier to revisit important parts or skip ahead quickly.
