Google has unveiled Gemini Intelligence, a powerful new AI system designed to automate complex tasks across apps.
However, the feature will not be available on most Android devices at launch.
Only select flagship smartphones with high-end specifications are expected to support it initially.
Google has announced Gemini Intelligence, a major upgrade that goes beyond a simple rebranding.
The system is designed to handle multi-step tasks automatically, executing them in the background without user intervention. It can source information, transform data, and interact with apps and websites independently on behalf of users.
One of the standout features includes a “Rambler” component in Gboard, allowing users to speak or type naturally with filler words, informal language, and even mixed languages within the same sentence.
Limited availability on flagship devices
Despite its advanced capabilities, Gemini Intelligence will not roll out broadly across Android devices at launch.
Reports suggest the feature will debut on upcoming premium smartphones, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. Google has also confirmed that the Galaxy S26 series and Pixel 10 series will receive the feature “this summer.”
An official note on android.com describes Gemini Intelligence as a premium feature with strict system requirements.
Devices must include at least 12GB of RAM, indicating heavy on-device processing demands. The system also relies on AICore, an Android service that enables AI functions using the Gemini Nano model.
Gemini Intelligence specifically requires Gemini Nano v3 or higher, which is currently supported only on a limited number of devices.
This makes compatibility highly restricted, limiting access to newer and more powerful smartphones.
Additional performance and quality conditions
Beyond hardware requirements, Google has outlined several performance and certification conditions.
Eligible devices must include:
- A qualified flagship chipset
- Successful completion of Android quality test suites (A17+)
- Low crash rates and strong stability benchmarks
- At least 5 major OS upgrades
- Six years of quarterly security updates
- Support for Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) and pKVM
The requirements also mention media performance standards such as spatial audio, low-light camera quality, HDR support, and gaming-related updates including annual GGI and driver improvements.
The combined requirements suggest Gemini Intelligence will be limited to a very small group of premium devices.
This creates what appears to be an “exclusive club” of supported smartphones, primarily flagship models with advanced hardware and long-term software support commitments.
