Google is rolling out a new feature for Quick Share that allows Android users to send files to iPhones through a QR code.
The update offers a simple alternative for users who do not yet have direct AirDrop-style compatibility between Android and iOS devices.
Google announced the feature during The Android Show: I/O Edition earlier this week.
With the new system, Android users can generate a QR code while sharing files through Quick Share. iPhone users can then scan the code using the Camera app to access and download the files.
How the file sharing process works
Once the QR code is scanned on an iPhone, the selected files are securely uploaded to the cloud and delivered through a private download link.
According to Google, the files are protected with end-to-end encryption during the transfer process.
The company also said the generated download link cannot be shared with others, adding an extra layer of privacy and security.
Files will remain available for 24 hours
Google confirmed that shared files will stay available for download for up to 24 hours after the QR code is generated.
The feature is expected to make file sharing between Android and iPhone devices easier, especially for users who regularly switch between ecosystems.
During The Android Show: I/O Edition, Google said the QR code-based sharing feature will roll out to all users by the end of June.
The update is part of Google’s broader effort to improve cross-platform connectivity and simplify file transfers between Android and iOS devices.
