OpenAI has announced new personal finance tools for ChatGPT, allowing users to connect financial accounts and ask detailed money-related questions using AI.
The company said more than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT every month, highlighting growing interest in AI-powered financial guidance.
According to OpenAI, the new GPT-5.5 model is stronger at reasoning with context, making it more effective for answering personal finance queries.
The company said it worked with finance experts to build a benchmark aimed at improving the model’s performance on finance-related questions.
With the new finance integration, users can ask questions such as:
- “I feel like I’ve been spending more recently. Has anything changed?”
- “Help me build a plan to be ready to buy a house in my area in the next 5 years.”
The feature is designed to provide more personalized financial insights by analyzing connected account data and user spending patterns.
Users can manage and delete financial data
OpenAI said users can remove connected financial accounts through the Settings menu by going to:
Settings > Apps > Finances
Once a financial service is disconnected, synced data will be removed from ChatGPT within 30 days.
Users will also be able to view and delete financial memories directly from the Finances page.
The launch reflects a broader trend among AI companies developing specialized tools for sensitive areas such as finance, health, and personal life.
OpenAI and Anthropic have already introduced health-focused AI tools, while Perplexity recently launched its own financial research product powered by its Computer agent.
Availability
OpenAI said the personal finance tools are currently available for ChatGPT Pro users on the web and iOS platforms.
The company added that it plans to improve the feature based on user feedback before expanding access to Plus subscribers.
