Pakistan has appreciated Azerbaijan’s consistent diplomatic backing, with Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan praising the country’s role in supporting Pakistan “in the fight for justice.”
Speaking at Azerbaijan’s 108th National Day ceremony, he said the relationship between Islamabad and Baku is “decreasing in distance day by day,” reflecting closer bilateral ties.
The remarks highlighted expanding cooperation between the two countries in diplomacy, trade, and regional connectivity.
Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations strengthen
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Abdul Aleem Khan delivered a message of goodwill and congratulations from Pakistan.
He noted that Azerbaijan holds historical significance as the first parliamentary republic in the Muslim world, and praised its development through innovation and strong national identity.

He said relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have taken a new direction since Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, with growing cooperation in multiple sectors.
Support in difficult times appreciated
The minister said the people of Pakistan deeply value Azerbaijan’s diplomatic, political, and moral support during difficult times.
He described Azerbaijan’s stance as “commendable” and said Pakistan would never forget its support in moments of international challenges.
He also praised the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his “visionary” approach to national development and foreign policy.
Focus on trade and connectivity
Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted the importance of strengthening trade and transit agreements between the two countries.
He expressed interest in expanding land connectivity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan to boost regional integration and economic cooperation.
According to him, both countries have strong potential to jointly face the challenges of the 21st century through strategic partnership and shared development goals.
The minister also noted increasing travel between the two countries, stating that more than 90,000 Pakistanis visited Azerbaijan last year.
He said this growing people-to-people contact reflects rising cultural and tourism links alongside political and economic engagement.
The 108th National Day event was attended by senior political and diplomatic figures.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khizr Farhadov welcomed Pakistan’s delegation, including Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and several federal ministers.
Other attendees included Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan, and ministers such as Mosaddiq Malik, Azam Nazir Tarar, Shaza Fatima, Farooq Sattar, and Maryam Aurangzeb, along with diplomats from various Muslim countries.
