Fresh progress has emerged in negotiations between the United States and Iran held through Pakistan’s mediation.
Iran’s formal response to the latest American proposals has officially been received by Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed. Addressing the Marka-e-Haq ceremony, the prime minister said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had informed him that Iran’s reply had been received. He said Pakistan continued its diplomatic efforts for peace in the world.
“We brought both sides to the negotiating table and secured a temporary ceasefire,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that Tehran’s response to the latest US proposals was dispatched today through the Pakistani mediator. The report said efforts to end the ongoing conflict in the region would remain central to the negotiations at this stage.
The Iranian draft also stressed the security of maritime movement in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Al Jazeera, Pakistan has forwarded the Iranian draft to the United States.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei had repeatedly stated that Iran’s position and reservations regarding the American proposals would be conveyed after the review process was completed and a final conclusion reached.
