New York Post journalist Caitlin Doornbos has said that talks on a possible US-Iran peace agreement have moved forward, but the process has not yet reached the finishing line.
Speaking on Samaa TV program RedLine with Talat, she said President Donald Trump may eventually travel to Islamabad to sign a deal, but that stage is still far away.
“The important news is that significant progress has been made, but we have not reached the final stage yet,” Doornbos said in the show. She added that some sources initially suggested the two sides were closer than ever to a peace agreement.
According to her, that assessment may be true to some extent, but it does not mean a deal is ready to be signed.
Trump contacted after Project Freedom stopped
Doornbos said she contacted President Trump after the announcement that Operation Project Freedom had been stopped. The move added fresh attention to diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
She said some media outlets reported that the two sides had come very close to a major agreement. But according to her sources, several issues remain unresolved.
Unresolved issues still blocking agreement
The New York Post journalist said progress has been made, but the finishing line remains distant. “According to my sources, there are still some unresolved issues,” Doornbos said.
She stressed that the negotiations have not yet reached the point where President Trump would need to travel to Pakistan. She also said nothing is expected to happen immediately.
Thanks to @TalatHussain12 for having me on @SAMAATV to discuss my reporting for the @nypost today. Good to see my Pakistani friends over their TVs again — hope to come back in person in the future if and when a final peace deal is ultimately reached. Doornbos said there is still a possibility that President Trump could come to Islamabad to sign a final peace agreement. But she clarified that such a visit would only happen after an agreement is actually reached.

“There is still a possibility that President Donald Trump will come to Islamabad to sign a final peace agreement,” she said.
“That will happen when such an agreement is reached. But we are not at that stage at the moment.”
The journalist said it is possible she may also travel to Islamabad with President Trump if a final deal is completed. “Hopefully I will be able to come to Islamabad with the President whenever a final peace agreement is reached,” Doornbos said.
She repeated that the possibility exists, but the process has not yet advanced to that point.

“It is possible that I will come to Islamabad with President Trump, but that stage is still far away,” she added.
Talks remain active, immediate breakthrough unlikely
Doornbos’ remarks suggest that diplomatic movement is continuing after the decision to halt Project Freedom. Still, her assessment also indicates that the US-Iran negotiations remain incomplete.
While some media reports have described the two sides as being very close to a deal, Doornbos said her sources believe more work is needed before any final peace agreement can be announced.
For now, President Trump’s potential visit to Islamabad remains tied to whether Washington and Tehran can resolve the remaining issues and reach a formal agreement.
