The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet has approved around Rs6 billion for payment of dues to employees of Pakistan International Airlines, along with several other key decisions related to exports, imports and government funding.
The ECC meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, during which funds for various ministries and departments were approved.
The ECC approved Rs5.98 billion for payment of dues to employees of the national airline. According to the decision, the amount will be spent through PIA Holding Company Limited on pensions, salaries and medical payments.
The committee also directed that the issue of payments related to National Insurance Company Limited should be taken up for adjustment with the relevant revenue authority.
Temporary import of vehicles and auto parts
The ECC approved amendments to the Import-cum-Export Scheme and the Export Facilitation Scheme. Under the approved changes, temporary import, repair and restoration of used vehicles and auto parts will be allowed.
After repair and restoration, these vehicles and auto parts will be exported again. The scheme will begin as a pilot project and will be reviewed after one year.
Donkey meat and hides export
The ECC also approved a summary submitted by the Ministry of National Food Security regarding the export of donkey meat and hides. Under the decision, donkey meat and skins from the slaughterhouse in Gwadar can now be exported to other countries, including China.
The move is aimed at allowing regulated export activity from Gwadar under the approved framework.
The committee also decided to impose a complete ban on the import of goods made through forced labor. The decision is part of the government’s broader policy measures related to trade regulation and ethical import standards.
Funds approved for Balochistan officers, NAB, hockey team
The ECC approved Rs311 million for officers in Balochistan. It also approved Rs372 million for the digital transformation of the National Accountability Bureau. In addition, the committee approved Rs30 million as prize money for the national hockey team.
The ECC also considered a summary from the Power Division regarding a public interest agreement. The committee directed that the summary should be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Government-Owned Enterprises for further consideration.
