Heavy rain and snowfall have disrupted daily life in the northern areas of Pakistan. In Astore, a landslide has blocked the key Shounter Pass road, halting traffic.
In Azad Kashmir, several link roads have also been closed. Landslides have caused damage to both private and public property, while in Neelum Valley, a connecting bridge has been washed away.
Snowfall continues in Astore’s areas including Nasirabad, Chughām, Kalalot, Rattu, Nanga Parbat, and Shounter Top. Since late night, heavy snowfall has disrupted life in valleys such as Mir Malik, Shankargarh, Faqir Kot, Chamrot, Batwash, and Dirley. Due to landslides, the Shounter road remains closed for traffic.
In Azad Kashmir, intense rain and landslides have blocked link roads at multiple locations, causing damage to private and public property. The Neelum Valley Road connecting Neelum Valley to other areas has been closed at Duwarian, Sheikh Bela, and Kail Seri due to landslides.
Authorities have begun restoration work on the roads. Last night, 30 tourist vehicles stranded due to landslides in Neelum Valley were safely rescued. In the village of Salkhala, a pedestrian bridge over a stream was swept away by flooding.
In Leepa Valley, a government dispensary was destroyed after being hit by falling rocks, while a school building was also damaged. In Dost Shah Seri, land erosion has started due to river water.
The National Disaster Management Authority has forecast further rain in Islamabad, Punjab, and Balochistan, while hailstorms are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the plains.
