Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam said that any negotiations with the United States will take place only in Pakistan.
He said Iran has full confidence in Pakistan but no trust in the United States, a position already conveyed to Islamabad. He termed the mediation efforts of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Field Marshal as commendable.
Addressing a gathering at the Policy Research Institute in Islamabad, the envoy said that external terrorism in Iran has led to 17,000 deaths, including senior leadership figures such as the Supreme Leader and the Prime Minister. He said that despite heavy human and financial losses, Iran has remained resolute.
He added that Iran does not seek dominance in the region but aims to safeguard its sovereignty. He maintained that Iran’s nuclear programme is entirely peaceful and that no country has been able to provide evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. He said Iran has endured sustained pressure from the United States and Zionist forces since the 1979 revolution.
