The spokesperson for the Iranian armed forces has said that oil tankers or vessels linked to countries regarded as hostile to Iran will not be permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s military leadership has adopted a firm and significant stance on security in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
According to the Iranian military, the country’s security will be ensured at all costs, with new measures under way to that end.
Officials said that new systems and procedures are being implemented to maintain control over this key waterway, which may include toll taxes and transit charges.
Iranian authorities stated that all vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz must maintain contact and coordination with Iranian officials in order to ensure security.
The development comes at a time when the United States has intensified pressure and restrictions in the region, leading to a noticeable decline in maritime traffic.
Analysts said Iran is using this strategic waterway not only from a security standpoint but also as a means of diplomatic and political pressure. The Iranian leadership has made clear that the principle of “security for all or for none” applies to the Strait of Hormuz.
Experts added that the Strait of Hormuz remains of critical importance to global trade, particularly oil shipments, and any escalation in tensions there could have far-reaching effects on the global economy.
