Iranian forces have said that if their ports come under threat, no port in the region will remain secure.
Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, Ismail Qaani, warned the United States and Israel following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz that they would return empty-handed from the region. He said the resistance front was firmly established across the region and stood ready for its adversaries.
He added that the United States and the Zionist state should recall how they withdrew empty-handed from Yemen, Bab al-Mandeb and the Red Sea, and said they would achieve no success in the region this time either.
He said Iran was prepared to respond to any aggression, and that military aircraft approaching the Strait of Hormuz would be dealt with firmly. Gulf ports, he said, would either remain open to all or to none, adding that American restrictions on vessels in international waters amounted to piracy.
Commander of the Iranian Navy, Admiral Shahram Irani, described former US president Donald Trump’s threats as absurd, stating that movements of the US military were under full observation.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei said the US blockade was retaliation against the global economy, questioning whether an unlawful war could be won by targeting international trade.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the US military has begun enforcing a blockade around Iranian ports. American officials have warned that vessels violating restrictions could be stopped or seized.
Analysts say the situation may further escalate tensions in the region and could have wider global repercussions.
