Arab media have reported that the United States military has begun enforcing a naval blockade of Iran’s maritime routes, with restrictions extending east of the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), vessels entering the restricted zone may be redirected or seized, regardless of their flag. The command stated that all ships will be subject to the new measures.
However, it added that neutral vessels will still be allowed to proceed after undergoing inspection and clearance. Humanitarian shipments will also be permitted following necessary checks.
CENTCOM further clarified that ships not traveling to or from Iran may continue their journey, subject to compliance with the new regulations. Reports indicate that the United States formally announced the blockade of Iranian sea routes earlier today.
