The head of the National Security Committee in Iran’s parliament, Ibrahim Azizi, has said that every vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be required to pay a toll under a new control system.
Speaking to Russian media, Azizi said the United States stood in greater need of an agreement than Iran. He added that Washington would have to accept both of Tehran’s demands, on which a deadlock had arisen, if any accord was to be reached. If the conditions were not accepted, he said, Iran would proceed on its own course.
Meanwhile, efforts to restore Iran’s oil refining capacity are under way. Officials expect up to 80 per cent of capacity to be restored within two months. The refining capacity damaged in recent attacks is likely to recover to between 70 and 80 per cent during the same period.
