A vibrant celebration of art and culture unfolded in Lahore as the Ambassador of Japan inaugurated a unique Ikebana exhibition marking a historic milestone.
The event highlights the fusion of Japanese floral artistry with Pakistan’s traditional crafts.
The “Spring Reverie: Crafts of Pakistan” Sogetsu Ikebana exhibition opened on April 3, 2026, at The Residency Hotel Lahore. The exhibition is being held to celebrate 100 years of Sogetsu Ikebana, a renowned Japanese school of flower arrangement.
Organized by the Lahore Floritage Sogetsu Study Group under the leadership of Director Ms. Neveen Syed, the event is being held in collaboration with Blue Pine Residences.
The exhibition is open to the public from 6 pm to 10 pm on April 3 and will continue on April 4 from 10 am to 5 pm.
He was joined by Mr. Aamir Shirazi, Honorary Consul General of Japan in Lahore, Mrs. Ghazala Irfan, President of the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) Lahore, and Mr. Ibrar Mumtaz, President of the Horticultural Society of Pakistan.
This year’s theme draws inspiration from Pakistan’s rich and diverse craft heritage. Artists showcased their creativity by interpreting traditional crafts through the medium of Ikebana.
The exhibition features works inspired by Multani pottery, Hala ceramics, and Ajrak textiles, reflecting the country’s cultural depth and artistic diversity.
Ambassador highlights cultural exchange
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu appreciated the efforts of the organizers for hosting the exhibition on such a significant occasion.
He noted that the exhibition represents a meaningful cultural exchange between Japan and Pakistan, blending the freshness of spring with traditional craftsmanship.
“Born in Japan, Sogetsu Ikebana finds fresh expression in Pakistan, harmonizing with local craftsmanship,” the ambassador remarked, while congratulating the Sogetsu school on completing 100 years.
