Apple has introduced its latest over-ear headphones, AirPods Max 2, with major upgrades in sound quality and smart features.
The new model brings improved noise cancellation, lossless audio support, and AI-powered capabilities aimed at enhancing everyday listening.
At the core of AirPods Max 2 is Apple’s new H2 chip, designed to boost computational audio processing.
The chip enhances multiple listening modes, enabling smoother transitions and more refined sound output across different environments.
Improved active noise cancellation
Apple claims the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) in AirPods Max 2 is up to 1.5 times more effective than the previous generation.
This allows users to better block out environmental noise such as airplane engines or train sounds, making it easier to focus on music, calls, or podcasts.
Transparency mode has also been upgraded with improved signal processing.
Using the headphone’s microphone array, it delivers more natural ambient sound, helping users stay aware of their surroundings when needed.
Enhanced sound quality and lossless audio
The new headphones feature a high dynamic range amplifier that improves audio clarity.
This upgrade enhances instrument separation and spatial accuracy, while maintaining consistent bass and natural mids and highs.
AirPods Max 2 support 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio when connected via USB-C.
This wired option also reduces latency, offering a more precise listening experience.
Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts the balance between ANC and Transparency mode based on surrounding noise levels.
Conversation Awareness lowers playback volume and reduces background noise when the user starts speaking.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, Live Translation enables real-time conversations between people speaking different languages.
Voice Isolation improves call quality by focusing on the user’s voice while filtering out background noise.
AirPods Max 2 introduce a camera remote feature, allowing users to take photos or control video recording using the Digital Crown when connected to an iPhone or iPad.
The headphones also support studio-quality recording, aimed at podcasters, singers, and interviewers seeking more natural vocal output.
Additional features for everyday use
Other software enhancements include:
-
Loud Sound Reduction to limit exposure to high noise levels
-
Personalized Volume that adapts to listening habits
-
Siri interactions that allow users to respond by nodding or shaking their head
Price, colors, and availability
AirPods Max 2 are priced at $549 and will be available in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.
