Former Pakistan commentator Ramiz Raja has spoken about the controversial run-out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Salman Ali Agha during the second One-Day International in Mirpur on Friday.
Expressing his thoughts after the 2nd ODI, the former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman said he belonged to a different school of thought, adding that modern cricket often sees sides seize any chance the moment it appears. He said that the dismissal fell outside the spirit of sportsmanship.
He added that Miraz remained within his rights to attempt the run-out. According to Raja, Agha’s intention seemed to be an act of goodwill, something he said players should not extend to the opposition in competitive sport.
Raja maintained that Agha’s strong reaction appeared natural, as the intentions of the two players differed. One cricketer sought a run-out, while the other attempted a friendly gesture, leaving little room for such conduct in a contest.
He said he would award Bangladesh national cricket team “10 out of 100” for the incident, adding that they could have handled the situation better.
Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh meet again in the third and decisive One-Day International on Sunday.
