Private jet charter prices have surged as wealthy residents and business travellers seek to leave Gulf countries following a sharp escalation in regional conflict triggered by joint US and Israeli strikes in Iran that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The conflict has intensified with Israel carrying out further strikes and Iran responding with missiles and drones targeting what it described as US interests and bases across Gulf states. Widespread flight cancellations by international airlines have disrupted commercial travel across the region, fuelling demand for private evacuation options.
Amid growing security concerns, affluent individuals and corporate executives are reportedly travelling by road to Riyadh, which has emerged as a key exit hub due to its operational airport and relative accessibility. Private security firms are arranging long-distance SUV convoys from cities such as Dubai, followed by chartered flights out of the region.
Demand for emergency departures has driven private jet prices sharply higher, with charters from Riyadh to Europe reportedly costing up to $350,000, according to The Daily Mail.
Saudi Arabia is viewed by many travellers as one of the few viable exit points after reported disruptions to routes through Oman. Riyadh’s main aviation hub, King Khalid International Airport, continues to operate international flights connecting Europe, North America, Asia and other regions.
Saudi authorities have also eased entry procedures for many nationalities, allowing visas on arrival, which has further increased the country’s role as an emergency transit destination.
Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed two drones, underscoring the tense security environment as the regional crisis shows little sign of easing.
