As cross-border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan draw global concern, Russia and Iran have both offered to mediate talks, urging an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic engagement.
The United Nations has also stepped in, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressing concern and calling for restraint and protection of civilians.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to implement an immediate ceasefire amid rising hostilities. Moscow emphasized that both countries should resolve their differences through talks rather than confrontation.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russia is ready to play the role of mediator between the two countries and facilitate dialogue to reduce tensions and restore stability.
Iran reiterates readiness to facilitate dialogue
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered Tehran’s support in easing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.
In a statement posted on X, Araghchi said Iran is ready to help “facilitate dialogue” between Pakistan and Afghanistan and provide all possible assistance to promote mutual cooperation.
He urged both countries to resolve their differences through good neighbourliness and dialogue, reaffirming that Iran stands prepared to support constructive engagement.

Highlighting the significance of the holy month of Ramazan, Abbas Araghchi described it as a time for self-control and promoting solidarity in the Islamic world. He called on both sides to reflect the spirit of restraint, unity, and brotherhood during the sacred month.
Iran has previously offered to mediate between the two countries as border tensions were rising, and has now renewed that offer as clashes intensify.
UN secretary-general expresses concern
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over reports of Pak-Afghan cross-border clashes. According to his spokesperson, the Secretary-General is watching the situation closely and with concern.
The UN urged the relevant parties to fulfill their obligations under international law and to ensure the protection of the civilian population.
Call for diplomatic resolution
The spokesperson for Guterres emphasized that both countries should continue efforts to resolve their differences through diplomatic means.
The United Nations reiterated that dialogue, restraint, and adherence to international responsibilities are essential to preventing further escalation.
