The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has recommended the enactment of a formal law to regulate the tinting of vehicle windows.
The committee placed key recommendations on record, and Chairperson Samina Mumtaz Zehri wrote to the Interior Committee chairman in this regard.
It proposed that windscreen and front side windows be permitted up to 30 per cent tint, while passenger side windows may be fully tinted. The committee also advised that violations should incur fines only, rather than criminal proceedings.
Samina Mumtaz Zehri said a 70 per cent Visible Light Transmission (VLT) standard should be fixed for windscreens and front windows. The introduction of digital meters for inspection of glass tint and a digital challan system has also been proposed.
