The gas leak explosion that occurred on Tuesday in the basement of the Supreme Court building has claimed its first life.
Nineteen-year-old Asad Muneeb, who sustained 80% burns in the blast, died at PIMS Hospital’s Burn Centre on Wednesday.
According to hospital officials, Asad had been undergoing treatment since Tuesday, but his condition remained critical due to the extent of his injuries.
The tragic incident took place on Tuesday when an AC gas plant exploded in the basement of the Supreme Court building during maintenance work on the air conditioning compressor.

CCTV footage of the incident showed a sudden blast followed by thick smoke spreading through the area. At least thirteen people were injured, including maintenance staff and nearby workers.
Investigation into cause of explosion
Authorities confirmed that a gas leak in the AC system is believed to have caused the explosion. A detailed investigation is underway to determine safety lapses and whether standard maintenance protocols were being followed at the time.
Rescue teams and fire officials had immediately responded to the scene on Tuesday, evacuating the affected area and transferring the injured to PIMS Hospital for emergency treatment.
