Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has responded to widespread criticism following her viral remarks about Karachi during a recent podcast appearance.
The Baaghi star clarified that her comments were misinterpreted and insisted she holds no ill feelings toward the city.
During her appearance on The Green Room podcast, Saba Qamar was asked whether she would consider moving to Karachi for work. Her quick response — “Astaghfirullah, never!” — immediately caught attention online.
Explaining her stance, the 41-year-old actress said she prefers living in Islamabad and Lahore and only travels to Karachi for professional commitments. She joked that she would only consider moving permanently if someone bought her a house there, though she already owns one in the city.
In a lighter tone, she suggested moving all drama productions from Karachi to Islamabad, which many took as playful banter. However, the internet didn’t see it that way.
Social media backlash
Within hours, clips from the podcast went viral, drawing criticism from fans and fellow actors. Many accused her of being “ungrateful,” claiming she earned her fame and success largely through projects based in Karachi. Others, however, defended her right to have personal preferences.

Some users emphasized that one’s comfort and sense of safety in a city can differ from others, urging critics not to overreact. Despite the mixed opinions, the debate quickly spread across X, Instagram, and Facebook.
Saba Qamar responds to criticism
Amid growing backlash, Saba Qamar addressed the issue through her Instagram stories. Reposting a satirical story by actor Yasir Hussain, she wrote, “You all are too funny, peace guys, Karachi is beautiful, just keep it clean and it’ll have my whole heart.”

She later added another clarification, saying: “I never meant to say anything against Karachi. It’s a beautiful city! I just spoke about the environment feeling unsafe at times. Some people misunderstood my words, but I really appreciate your support and clarity.”
