Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that regional security cannot be shaped by excluding Iran.
In a statement, Araghchi made it clear that any new security framework should be based on the participation of all countries and collective co-operation. He said lasting security, economic development and regional stability could only be achieved through mutual co-operation.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the primary aim of the agreement is the immediate end to the war. He stated that no clause related to the nuclear programme is part of the memorandum of understanding at this stage. He added that the agreement could be signed within the next one or two days.
Uncertainty, however, continues over the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. According to a report by Al Arabiya, the two countries are expected to sign the memorandum today.
The virtual meeting is due to take place with mediation from Pakistan and Qatar. US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are expected to take part.
