Indian media outlets have launched a campaign against Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, claiming that he will be replaced by Shadab Khan ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
According to Indian media, Salman Ali Agha will be removed from captaincy before the T20 World Cup. It has been reported that all-rounder Shadab Khan will take over the role and may continue as the captain for a longer tenure. Indian media claimed that Shadab Khan will participate in matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy before the tri-nation Series.
However, sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that Salman Ali Agha retains the board’s confidence and will lead the side in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and the national selectors have also expressed their trust in his leadership.
Discussions did take place between the selectors and the coach regarding Salman Ali Agha’s individual performance. Nonetheless, sources have rejected claims of his removal as captain before the World Cup.
The PCB chairman has also conveyed continued support for Salman Ali Agha, reaffirming his position as captain of the national T20 side.
