The government has waived August electricity bills for more than 2.5 million household consumers in flood-affected regions.
According to sources in the Power Division, consumers in Gujranwala, Peshawar, Multan, Lahore, Faisalabad, Islamabad and the tribal areas have received relief amounting to over Rs 17 billion.
The bills of 1.5 million consumers of Gujranwala Electric Supply Company and 475,000 consumers of Peshawar Electric Supply Company have been waived.
In addition, 265,000 consumers of Multan Electric Supply Company, 77,000 of Islamabad Electric Supply Company, 48,000 in Lahore and 165,000 of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company have also received relief.
Sources in the Power Division say that 1,000 consumers of the Tribal Electric Supply Company will not pay their August bills, while a survey is in progress regarding affected consumers of Sukkur Electric Supply Company.
