The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to form and register a new political party to avoid future reliance on weaker alliances and to resolve ongoing legal complications, party sources confirmed.
According to insiders, the new party will be registered separately but will work alongside the PTI during upcoming elections. Work has begun to fulfil the constitutional requirements for the registration of the new party. The move aims to secure the party’s political position and maintain independence in the face of legal and electoral challenges.
'Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan' and 'Insaf Pakistan' under consideration
Party sources revealed that the proposed names under consideration for the new entity include “Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan” and “Insaf Pakistan.” The leadership is finalizing which version will best represent the new political identity while preserving PTI’s ideological essence.
PTI founder Imran Khan has also reportedly expressed intent to form a new party with a similar name, reinforcing the idea of continuity while establishing organizational distinction.
New party to have separate chairman and structure
According to sources, the new political party will feature a completely independent chairman and organizational setup, distinct from the existing PTI structure.
The constitution and membership requirements for the new party are being finalized. Work is in progress to complete the documentation necessary for registration with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Party officials have started gathering data, including identity card information, to fulfill the 1,000-member requirement needed under electoral laws for registering a political party.
Election strategy: Both parties to contest together
The sources confirmed that once registration is complete, the new party will contest elections alongside PTI. The two entities will cooperate closely to avoid the challenges faced in previous elections where PTI had to depend on alliances with weaker parties.
“We want to avoid having to resort to any other party in the elections like in the past,” a senior PTI source said, adding that this step ensures autonomy and strategic flexibility.
In case of any legal or electoral hurdles before or after the elections, the newly registered party will serve as a support mechanism for PTI to navigate future challenges.
Registration with election commission expected soon
According to party insiders, once membership formation and constitutional drafting are finalized, the leadership will approach the Election Commission of Pakistan to officially register the new party.
The registration process is expected to begin in the coming weeks, marking a major strategic shift for PTI as it prepares for the next general elections.
