The PSDF-Tabeer program, launched under the Chief Minister’s Skilled Punjab Program has successfully facilitated overseas employment for more than 65 youth, who received job offer letters on Friday to begin work as lead workers in Qatar.
The batch of over 65 workers is expected to contribute nearly $250,000 annually in remittances. Each Pakistani worker abroad contributes an estimated $3,000-$5,000 annually in remittances, forming part of the over $32 billion that Pakistan received last year.
Adnan Afzal Chattha, the chairperson of the CM Task Force on Skills Development, added “This milestone aligns with the chief minister’s vision of exporting skilled workers to the Gulf region. It is only the beginning of what we aim to accomplish, as many more such opportunities are in the pipeline. The journey has just started, and there is much more to come.”
What is PSDF?
PSDF is the largest skills development fund in Pakistan, set up by Punjab government in collaboration with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). PSDF also manages the skills training funding provided by the World Bank. Over the past 10 years it has funded trainings for over 500,000 youth in over 250 demand-driven trades over six programs through an ecosystem of over 500 training service providers, primarily from the industry and private sector.
