Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Friday that Pakistan had gained significantly from its defence relations with China.
In an interview with Chinese media, he said that despite limited resources, Pakistan had downed six aircraft during conflict with India, aided by Chinese technology.
He said the slogan “with us or against us” was a Western concept, and Pakistan believed in the Chinese philosophy of cooperation and mutual benefit.
Separately, Bhutto-Zardari said that politics must not be staged during flood situations.
The former foreign minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari visited China where he inspected agricultural and defence production facilities.
He said that President Zardari is the only head of state who has visited China more times than any other president of Pakistan.
During the visit, several Memoranda of Understanding were also signed, he said.
Bhutto-Zardari said the Pakistan People’s Party has continued dialogue with the federal government.
He said discussions had taken place on the K-IV water project and other development initiatives.
Bhutto-Zardari said the Sindh government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation must find a solution to the water shortage.
He said the Hub Canal project had recently been launched, and two sewage treatment plants were under construction.
The PPP chairman said that the treatment plants have a combined capacity of 100 MGD, of which 35 MGD will be processed at the current site.
Bhutto-Zardari said that this water will be allocated for industrial use. He added that the project would help address Karachi’s water shortage.
