Three localities of Lahore have been declared highly sensitive regarding crimes against women, as alarming statistics reveal thousands of cases of domestic violence and abuse in less than a year.
Most affected areas
According to official data, Nishtar Colony tops the list, with 2,604 incidents of domestic violence reported in the past eight months.
It is followed by the Factory Area, where 2,452 cases have been recorded, while Kahna ranks third with 2,070 complaints.
Nature of crimes reported
The incidents include physical and sexual violence, blackmailing through photos and videos, inappropriate behaviour, and the exploitation of women within their own homes.
Police say these crimes reflect deep-rooted social issues and highlight the urgent need for preventive measures.
Lahore records higher cases than other cities
Data shows that the rate of domestic violence in Lahore is higher than in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sheikhupura.
According to the Virtual Women’s Police Station, more than 22,000 cases of domestic violence have been registered in Lahore this year alone, underscoring the city’s alarming trend.
Steps towards women’s safety
Police and Safe City officials emphasize the importance of innovative tools like the Women’s Safety App, along with training sessions and awareness programs, to improve protection for women.
Authorities believe technology-driven monitoring, combined with stricter enforcement, can help reduce violence and create safer environments for women across Lahore.
