The World Bank will provide more than $2 billion in loans to Pakistan during the current fiscal year, according to official documents from the Economic Affairs Division.
The financing, to be extended through the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), will be directed towards projects in agriculture, energy, water, finance, revenue, governance, and social services.
57 active projects worth $16.6bn
At present, 57 World Bank–funded projects worth $16.6 billion are underway across the country. These initiatives cover a wide range of areas, including communication, rural and urban development, human capital investment, and governance reforms, the documents show.
The bank has also pledged an additional $8.6 billion for upcoming projects in the coming years.
Funding trends over the years
Pakistan has received $11.84 billion in World Bank loans over the past seven years, with the energy sector receiving the largest share ($1.96 billion).
