6 security personnel martyred in Bannu terrorist attack, 5 militants killed
Six personnel of the Federal Constabulary and Pakistan Army were martyred in the early hours of September 2 when militants attempted to storm the Federal Constabulary Headquarters in Bannu district.
According to security officials, the attackers, armed with explosives and weapons, tried to breach the perimeter security. In a suicide attempt, they rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the outer wall, partially collapsing the structure and damaging nearby civilian property. Three civilians were injured in the blast.
Troops responded swiftly, engaging the assailants in a fierce exchange of fire and killing all five attackers.
A clearance operation was launched in the area and security forces said the perpetrators and their facilitators would be brought to justice. Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s forces, along with the nation, remain resolute in eliminating terrorism from the country.
All Bannu attackers killed, clearance operation complete: KP Police Chief
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed said on Tuesday that all terrorists involved in the attack on Frontier Constabulary Lines in Bannu have been killed and the clearance operation has been completed.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, the police chief said militants had attempted to storm the facility but their plans were foiled. He confirmed that five attackers were eliminated during the operation.
Hameed noted that incidents of terrorism have increased in southern districts, but police operations against militants have also risen by 25 percent this year.
He added that terrorists are now using drones in some attacks, similar to modern warfare practices seen elsewhere. To counter this, anti-drone technology has been provided to the provincial police.
