Several villages in the Sutlej River belt, including Bahram Hathaṛ, Bonga Chakoka, Mari Chakoka, Lundi Dadu, and Sharaf Shah, remain inundated with up to five feet of floodwater, officials and residents said Monday.
Flood-affected families forced to relocate are facing severe hardships. Private boat owners are charging Rs. 10,000 to transport families and up to Rs. 20,000 for evacuations involving livestock, locals said.
Residents reported acute shortages of food and clean drinking water. Access routes to populated areas have been cut off, while in Bahramka, authorities cut a road to save a nearby graveyard from submersion.
The crisis has also pushed up fodder prices for livestock, with costs rising from Rs. 400 per maund to as high as Rs. 700–800.
