Punjab reels under devastating floods, leaving entire communities displaced. Authorities have confirmed 33 deaths, with more than 1.5 million people affected across the province.
Over 2,300 villages are submerged, and nearly half a million residents have been shifted to safer locations. In view of the worsening situation, school closures have been extended in several districts.
In Sialkot, the district administration announced that both public and private educational institutions will remain closed until September 5. Officials said several schools are still inundated by floodwaters.
In Okara, holidays have also been extended in flood-hit areas along the Sutlej and Ravi rivers. According to government directives, schools in 32 localities will remain shut until September 7.
In Pakpattan, while leaves of government officials have been canceled, more than 30 schools have been closed due to the flood situation.
In Narowal, the deputy commissioner ordered a five-day closure of all public and private schools from September 1 to 5 as floodwaters continue to disrupt normal life.
In Chiniot, the Punjab government delegated authority to district commissioners to decide on school holidays. Education officials reported that 97 public schools have been affected by floods, and decisions on closures will be taken daily depending on the situation.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, the deputy commissioner confirmed that all schools will resume classes on September 1, except for 45 institutions in flood-affected areas. Those schools have been converted into relief camps for displaced families.
In view of the ongoing flood situation, holidays for educational institutions in the district have been extended.
According to officials, government schools were scheduled to reopen on September 1, but the deputy commissioner has announced an extension of the holidays until September 6.
The district education authorities have announced the closure of 145 schools in flood-affected areas until September 5.
In Hafizabad, according to the CEO Education, the Government Special Education School in Pindi Bhattian will also remain closed until September 5 due to the situation.
However, all other schools in the district will remain open and continue normal academic activities.
