The federal cabinet has approved a 15% increase in Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) pensions, raising the minimum monthly pension from Rs10,000 to Rs11,500.
The revised pensions will be paid from September 1, along with arrears, according to Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Saalik Hussain.
Increased support for pensioners
With this decision, long-serving pensioners will now be eligible to receive pensions of over Rs30,000 per month. The minister added that the government has directed EOBI to release Rs10 billion every month in pensions to support retired workers.
Expanding coverage to more workers
In addition to the pension hike, the federal cabinet has also formed a committee to explore ways of bringing domestic workers and agricultural labourers under the EOBI system.
Govt commitment to welfare
Chaudhry Saalik reiterated the government’s resolve to ensure the welfare and social security of the working class. He emphasized that strengthening EOBI is part of the broader agenda to provide financial stability and dignity to retired employees across Pakistan.
