The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) disclosed on Saturday that the country’s imports have been increased by $1billion in July.
According to details, the country’s imports have been increased by 23% in the last month, taking the total volume to Rs5.86billion. The petroleum imports have been surged by 6.42%, taking the total volume to $1.34billion.
The imports for smartphones have been increased by 125%. Within one month, the mobile phones worth Rs41.38 billion have been imported in the country. The imports for textile sector increased by 21% and transport sector by 168%.
Moreover, the imports for vehicles increased by 139%, crossing the volume to over $30 million. The imports for food items crossed over $740 million.
Meanwhile, the imports for milk, cream, wheat, dry fruits, tea and condiments have surged.
It is pertinent to note that in July, palm oil worth over Rs300 million imported in the country. With an increase in imports, the trade deficit increased by 29.40% to take the total volume to $3.18 billion.
