The body of journalist Khawar Hussain, who was found shot dead, was shifted to Hyderabad by Sanghar police after completing legal formalities and a postmortem.
According to officials, the body was taken to the cold storage facility of Civil Hospital Hyderabad, but the hospital administration refused to keep it there, citing a power outage since morning. Instead, the body was placed in the postmortem room, with the administration advising it be moved elsewhere.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report.
Mystery surrounds death of journalist Khawar Hussain in Sanghar
The death of young journalist Khawar Hussain in Sanghar has raised questions after his body was found with a gunshot wound inside his car.
DIG Shaheed Benazirabad Faisal Bashir Memon said no evidence has so far been found to suggest it was a murder. A pistol recovered from the vehicle was identified as Khawar’s licensed personal weapon and has been sent for forensic examination.
CCTV footage from before the incident shows Khawar entering and leaving a hotel. According to police, the hotel manager had asked a guard to approach his car, where Khawar was later discovered dead.
The body was shifted to the Hilal-e-Ahmer mortuary. His brother-in-law Zubair Ali stated Khawar had no known enmity and had last been in contact four days earlier. He said the family was unaware of Khawar’s visit to Sanghar.
The Sindh Home Department has formed a high-level inquiry committee headed by a grade-21 officer, including two DIGs and the Sanghar SSP, to investigate the case.
Khawar Hussain’s funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow after Zuhr at his ancestral graveyard in Sanghar.
