The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has strongly rejected PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s accusations of bias against the commission, terming his claims baseless and misleading.
According to an ECP spokesperson, an anti-terrorism court convicted Senator Ejaz Chaudhry and MNAs Ahmad Chattha and Ahmad Khan Bhachar, and their convictions remain intact. The spokesperson clarified that no court has set aside the verdicts issued against them.
Regarding MNA Abdul Latif Chitrali, the ECP stated that his case is different. Although Chitrali himself did not approach the Islamabad High Court, his co-accused did, and the High Court set aside the anti-terrorism court’s verdict for those individuals. Since Chitrali was not part of that appeal, he was issued a notice asking him to assist the ECP in determining whether the same relief applies to him.
Earlier, Barrister Gohar alleged in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the ECP was acting with bias against PTI. He cited the de-notification of Ahmad Chattha and Ahmad Khan Bhachar under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution as proof of discriminatory treatment.
Barrister Gohar stated that the ECP’s biased behavior must stop, warning that democracy is at stake. However, the ECP reiterated that all actions are being taken strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
