New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the upcoming series against Zimbabwe due to a right groin injury.
Phillips sustained the injury during the final match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) and was diagnosed upon arrival in Zimbabwe. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the development in an statement.
Medical staff have advised the 28-year-old to rest, thereby ruling him out of the series.official
In response to the setback, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment at Phillips’ unavailability, citing the player's key role in the side’s balance.
A replacement for Phillips in the Test squad is expected to be announced by New Zealand Cricket within the next few days.
