The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expelled five National Assembly members for voting in favour of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, a notification, signed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan, confirmed the expulsions of Zahoor Qureshi, Aurangzeb Khichi, Mubarak Zeb Khan, Usman Ali, and Chaudhry Ilyas.
The party said: "These members breached party discipline by supporting the amendment on October 21, 2024, despite the party’s unanimous decision to oppose it."

The notification said that show-cause notices were issued to the members, but their responses were deemed unsatisfactory, leading to disciplinary action.
It is pertinent to note that the 26th Constitutional Amendment, passed by both houses of parliament on October 21, 2024, for limiting the term of office of the chief justice to three years and establishes a parliamentary committee for judicial appointments.
The PTI had strongly opposed the amendment, calling it an "attack on judicial independence" and alleging that it was designed to protect rigging in the February 8, 2024 elections while targeting the party.
