Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed on Saturday the partial award issued by the Court of Arbitration concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as a "vindication" of Pakistan’s stance.
He stated that the court’s decision has strengthened Pakistan’s narrative at the international level. The prime minister said that the verdict had clarified to the world that India cannot unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
He underscored the strategic importance of water, calling it Pakistan’s lifeline, and reiterated the government's commitment to working seriously on the management and development of the country's water resources.
PM Shehbaz had acknowledged the efforts of Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor for Pakistan Usman Awan in presenting Pakistan’s case effectively.

It is pertinent to note that the Court of Arbitration overseeing the Indus Waters Treaty has ruled in favour of Pakistan’s stance, rejecting India’s unilateral attempt to suspend the treaty and halt arbitration proceedings.
The verdict, announced by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), reinforces Pakistan’s long-standing position that the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be unilaterally suspended or terminated by either party. The court declared that India has no legal authority under the treaty or international law to disrupt the arbitration process or withdraw from its obligations without mutual consent.
