– NDMA issues Glof alert in northern areas –
The NDMA has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (Glof) alert for northern areas, as increased risk arises from extreme heat, monsoon rains, and a westerly weather system.
According to the alert, the combination of intense heat and ongoing monsoon activity may increase the likelihood of glacial lake outbursts. Such incidents could cause flash flooding, damaging roads and bridges and disrupting connectivity.
Local residents and tourists have been advised to avoid visiting glaciers, lakes, riverbanks and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
Citizens have also been urged to immediately report any unusual water flows or visible changes in glaciers to local officials.
