Members of the Iranian parliament on Monday chanted “Thank you, thank you Pakistan” in a rare public display of appreciation for Islamabad’s stance in support of Iran during its ongoing conflict with Israel.
The gesture followed remarks by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who praised Pakistan for standing by Iran as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
Speaking during a special session of parliament, President Pezeshkian said, “We extend our hand to all Islamic nations. The enemy is delusional if it believes it can destroy our nuclear capabilities by assassinating our scientists.”
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear energy, calling it a “legitimate right” that Iran will not abandon.
The president’s remarks were met with enthusiastic slogans from lawmakers, who repeatedly chanted, “Thank you, thank you Pakistan,” highlighting growing solidarity between the two countries.
The Iranian parliament session also saw emotional tributes paid to the military commanders, soldiers, and nuclear scientists who were martyred in recent Israeli airstrikes. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf condemned what he called “barbaric attacks” on Iranian citizens and urged national unity in the face of aggression.
“This is a time for resistance, not retreat. The world must know that Iran will never compromise on its sovereignty,” Qalibaf said.
The statements came days after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed full solidarity with Iran in the wake of intensified missile exchanges and Israeli strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure. PM Sharif had emphasized the need for restraint but declared that “Pakistan stands firmly with the Iranian people in this critical hour.”
