The federal government decided on Tuesday to impose Rs2.5 carbon levy on petroleum products and furnace oil in the federal budget for 2025-26.
The government has decided to impose a carbon levy on petroleum products and furnace oil in the federal budget for 2025-26. Additionally, a proposal has been made to impose a levy on petrol and diesel vehicles to encourage the promotion of electric vehicles. This levy will increase to Rs5 per litre in the fiscal year 2026-27.
He stated that, according to the federal budget, goods will be seized without the tax stamp or barcode. Aurangzeb said that the government has also decided to involve provincial authorities in enforcing tax laws to curb the smuggling of non-duty paid cigarettes.
He said that, as part of the new budget, the federal government has decided to introduce customs reforms and impose a 10% surcharge on the repayment of external loans. The government will also have the authority to increase the surcharge rate.
The federal budget has outlined significant measures for the implementation of the energy vehicle policy. Electric vehicles will be prioritised over petrol and diesel vehicles. The use of electric motorcycles and rickshaws will be encouraged.
A proposal has been made to impose a levy on petrol and diesel vehicles. The sale and import of vehicles using fuel will be subject to a levy based on engine capacity.
