A district court in Islamabad on Wednesday approved a police request for the identification parade of Umar Hayat, the primary suspect in the brutal murder of TikToker Sana Yousaf. The court also ordered a 14-day judicial remand, sending the suspect to jail.
Duty Magistrate Ahmed Shahzad issued the order during a hearing at the Islamabad District Court, acting on a formal request submitted by the case’s investigating officer.
Umar Hayat, who is facing a murder charge registered at the Sumbal Police Station, was brought to the courtroom with a cloth covering his face.
The hearing also saw a moment of judicial displeasure when Duty Magistrate Ahmed Shahzad expressed frustration over the absence of the district prosecutor.

“Where are the prosecutors of my court?” the visibly irked judge asked. “Usually, the lawyers don’t even show up — but today, everyone seems to be here.”
The situation led the judge to summon the district prosecutor, delaying the proceedings. When informed that the district prosecutor was on leave, the duty prosecutor tried to take charge. However, Magistrate Shahzad refused to proceed in the absence of the designated prosecutor.
“The case will only move forward once the district prosecutor is present,” he said, ultimately adjourning the session until further notice.

The suspect was traced using CCTV footage, mobile phone location data, and other technical evidence. The alleged murder weapon, a pistol, was also recovered from his possession.
Authorities revealed that Umar and Sana had been in contact for some time, and the murder was premeditated. On the day of the incident, Umar reportedly parked his motorcycle near Sana's house in Sector G-13 and fled the scene on it after committing the crime.
CCTV footage captured the suspect running away from the location on foot, which helped narrow down the investigation.
