Lahore is reeling under an intense heatwave as temperatures soared to 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday, with the Meteorological Department warning that the mercury could rise further in the coming days, possibly reaching 45 degrees.
According to the latest advisory by the Meteorological Department, hot and humid winds are making conditions even more unbearable for citizens. The Met Office has sounded a heatwave alert, predicting that the extreme weather will continue throughout the week.
In southern Punjab districts, temperatures may hit a staggering 50 degrees Celsius, prompting widespread concern.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued a warning and instructed all departments concerned to remain on high alert.
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that heatwave counters have been established in all major hospitals across the province. He advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, and refrain from strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours.

Medical experts have also issued public health advisories urging citizens to take special precautions to avoid heatstroke, especially children, the elderly, and those with existing medical conditions.
The Met Office also noted that due to prevailing weather patterns, temperatures in Punjab may increase by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius until May 19, making it one of the hottest periods this summer.
