The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a high-alert warning for possible severe flooding in the Kabul River and its tributaries from today until April 20, amid forecasts of heavy rainfall in the region.
According to PDMA, a strong westerly wind system is expected to enter upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by tonight, significantly increasing the risk of flash floods, particularly in low-lying and riverine areas.
District administrations across the province have been directed to take all necessary precautionary measures, while residents and farmers living near the Kabul River and its connected streams have been urged to remain vigilant.
The PDMA has also instructed Rescue 1122 and Civil Defense teams to stay on high alert. Sensitive areas should be closely monitored, and emergency equipment is to be installed in flood-prone zones. Authorities have also been asked to remove any obstacles from roads to ensure smooth emergency response and evacuation if needed.
Lahore weather update
Meanwhile, in Lahore, citizens experienced a pleasant shift in weather on Friday as light rain and cloudy skies offered relief from the recent heatwave. Drizzle was reported in various parts of the city, including Iqbal Town, Wahdat Colony, Mustafa Town, Jail Road, Gulberg, Mall Road, and Model Town.
The current temperature in Lahore stands at 37°C, with a maximum of 38°C expected later in the day. Winds continued to blow across the city, complementing the cool spell brought on by intermittent showers.
The Met Department has forecast more rain for Lahore today and tomorrow, predicting that intermittent showers will persist, bringing further relief from the heat.

Authorities in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have advised the public to stay informed through official channels, avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall, and report emergencies immediately to helplines such as Rescue 1122.
