In a shocking turn of events, the Sindh Health Department has declared Dr. Syed Liaquat Ali Shah, the son of former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, as deceased -- despite the fact that he is currently serving as a medical superintendent (MS) on contract at a government ophthalmology hospital.
The revelation surfaced during a court submission related to the recruitment case of an employee named Tariq Chhajro. In a report submitted by the health secretary, health director general, and additional health secretary, it was stated that Dr. Liaquat Ali Shah had issued the recruitment order and had since passed away.
The report has caused confusion within the Sindh Health Department, with officials now reluctant to comment on the matter.
Interestingly, Dr. Liaquat Ali Shah has been actively serving as MS at the eye hospital for the past two years. Before this, he worked as a contract professor at a medical college following his retirement.
Dr Liaquat had previously served as a district health officer (DHO) and was responsible for recruiting over 400 employees a decade ago. Out of these, 161 employees continue to receive salaries, while the remaining cases are still pending in court.
When contacted for his response, Dr. Liaquat Ali Shah declined to comment on the claims regarding his supposed death. He stated that he had not received any official letter from the helth secretary and would only provide a written response once he does.
