Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has given a strong response to Prime Minister's Advisor Rana Sanaullah’s statement regarding a potential reference against two senior judges.
He asserted that if the government wants to file a reference, it should go ahead, adding, "Why fear when nothing is wrong?"
During an informal conversation with journalists at the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed judges, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was asked about the government's plans to file a reference. He firmly stated, "Let them bring the reference. If nothing wrong has been done, why should we be afraid?"
When questioned about rumors that he was not actively working, he responded, "Check the Supreme Court website and see who has disposed of the most cases and authored the most reported judgments." This statement dismissed claims that he was not fulfilling his judicial duties.
It is worth noting that Rana Sanaullah, in a recent TV interview, had revealed that the government is considering filing a reference against two senior Supreme Court judges. He suggested that a commission could be formed to investigate their conduct, alleging that they frequently write letters on judicial matters, which reach the media before official channels. He argued that their actions could be linked to judicial misconduct.
Rana Sanaullah further stated, "The Supreme Court is facing difficulties due to these two senior judges. They keep writing letters and boycotting proceedings."
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah's strong response underscores the ongoing tensions between the judiciary and the government over this matter.
